A TRIBUTE TO:
The African tribe of Barabaig's in Tanzania

Canadian flag Tanzanian flag This site is dedicated to a very fine tribe of people who live in the central part of Tanzania. This tribe is one of the few remaining "cattle herders"in this part of Africa. They exist and survive much as they have for hundreds of years. The author of this page lived near these people for several years in the 1980's.

The physical appearance of the Barabaig with their fine facial features and height, (males around 6 feet, and the women somewhat shorter), resemble the African somatic type known as Nilotic. These striking features can be seen in the photos of friends of mine in the area around Mount Hanang which is about 60 miles west of Babati, Tanzania.
